Pitch Fibre Pipe Repair Specialists

Pitch fibre pipes were widely used from the 1950s to the 1970s as a cheaper and faster alternative to clay. While they performed well for decades, many are now reaching the end of their lifespan. As they deform or delaminate, blisters form inside the pipe which cause repeated blockages.

At Wessex Drainage, we specialise in pitch fibre pipe repair across Wiltshire and Hampshire. In most cases, faulty pitch fibre pipes can be fully restored by re-rounding and resin lining, extending their life for 50 years or more. This approach avoids disruptive excavation, prevents damage to surfaces, and is a fraction of the cost of full replacement.

The savings are significant. For example, drain re-rounding and lining a 100mm pitch fibre pipe at 1.8m depth in a hard surface can save more than £6,000 compared to excavation. Resin lining also reduces carbon impact, minimises waste and avoids specialist landfill disposal of old pitch fibre. With a success rate of over 90 per cent, this method should always be considered first.

In some cases, insurance may cover the cost of pitch fibre pipe repair. If your claim is refused, you can refer to the Financial Ombudsman Service, which has ruled in favour of many householders.

Resin Lining Services in Wiltshire and Hampshire

Resin lining is a proven solution for deteriorating pipes, including defective pitch fibre and clay systems damaged by roots, soil movement or wear over time.

The process involves impregnating a felt sleeve with resin, which is then inserted into the drain and inflated with air until cured. This forms a seamless, durable tube that restores the structural integrity of the pipe. Our team can install resin liners of over 100 metres in one continuous length, allowing us to undertake major contracts as well as smaller domestic repairs.

Resin lining delivers major benefits:

  • No need for disruptive excavation
  • Pipes can usually be used the same day
  • Lower cost, typically saving around 40% compared to excavation
  • Seam-free, long-lasting repair with minimal maintenance

Our certified team are trained in the Brawoliner system at the factory in Germany, ensuring we deliver the highest quality resin lining installations available.
